The January races saw Silson’s longest journey for the Chiltern League with good numbers making the trip to Watford. Also, the club was represented in the Midland Cross Country Championships, across the border in Leicestershire. Race reports below.

Chiltern League Cross Country Watford Saturday - January 11th

After a very cold week underfoot conditions in Casioberry Park were firm. Despite the journey, Silson’s men had their largest team of the season so far. Simon Woodward continued with his consistent form, placing 34th. A close battle ensued between James Spencer 57th and Paul Holmes 58th. Working hard on the hilly terrain were sisters Laura 52nd and Hannah Torrance 58th. Despite the improved turn out, the two teams above us were stronger on the day as Silson remain 3rd in Division 2. Going into the final fixture quite a few Silson runners have individual interest for Chiltern League awards, see below. Results Richard Francis 21st, Chris Coghlan 34th, Simon Woodward 36th, Simon Storer 50th, Toby Heley 55th, James Spencer 57th, Paul Holmes 58th, Simon KH 67th, Richard Popiel 71st, Jakob Ebrey 76th, Charlie Purr 83rd, Humphrey Marten 97th. Midland Cross Country Championships Mallory Park Leics - Saturday January 25th

The area outside the motor racing circuit provided an excellent venue for these championships. Well done to Silson Ladies for getting a team together and performing so well. Julie Hammond made light work of the mud and man made hills to finish an excellent 46th. Continuing to run really well throughout the cross country season, Susan Mulligan came home in an impressive 83rd position. Doing the club proud were Sue Torrance 113th and Fiona Storer 117th to lead the team to 15th place. The only Silson male was Simon Storer working really hard for his 137th place which was comfortably mid pack.
